Amino acids are essentially chemical bonds. They are the most important building material of proteins. Bodily proteins can be constructed after they have been broken down by enzymes. Then non- or semi-essential amino acids can be converted into essential or semi-essential ones. The essential ones are those the body cannot produce on its own. They must be obtained from food. The non-essential amino acids can be produced adequately by the body. Then there are some semi-essential amino acids which can only be supplied from certain foods – for example in situations of extreme stress or after illness. This is a science for itself; the fact is though that an increased consumption or a diminished supply of amino acids to the body has consequences. If, on the one hand, the nutrition these days no longer contains sufficient vital substances and we, on the other hand, through an unbalanced diet or unhealthy sport exercise, create a shortage, it will eventually backfire. Thanks to the science, these days one can balance out deficiencies or increased consumption with nutritional supplements. Metabolic deficiencies are treatable thanks to contemporary knowledge.
